Great Family Time

I had a great weekend with my family and a busy first 2 day off from work,  I did not do a whole lot on Saturday and Sunday.  I did do a good one with the Family in the box on Sunday from Froning and Bailey...but first:

I did some stuff as well on Saturday and left a few things out here and there.  Was overall a good last few days.  Planning to do some burpees tonight!  Not 7 Minutes worth but 50 total burpees.  So happy to have spent the time I have with my family and happy to get better!

2012 Reebok CrossFit Games is on!

The day after the Reebok CrossFit Games Open began last year I was in a bad mental place.  My CrossFit Games dream was, what I thought at the time, was over.  Needless to say I never got to do an Open WOD at 100%.  This year is different.  i am feeling Great and excited for the Open.  This is a fun time!  I am not to worried about where I place in the Open even though I would like to be at the top.  This is more of a prep for Regionals May 11-13......that date is circled on the calender.  As far as this years Open, I cannot contain myself.  I will be doing the WODs Thursday morning because I cannot sit back and wait.  not my plan.  I will wait to post my times though because my wife said so.  I love the first WOD,  I hate it just as much though because it puts you in a BAD place....but that is CrossFit!  You never know and putting yourself in those places teaches you a lot about yourself.  I learned a lot this morning....such as.....7 Minutes is a long time to do burpees and not stop!  I do wish that this was last year though because I was doing burpees every night!  I have backed off on that and it showed in capacity but my efficiency is still there.  I will be posting my video on here this week.

It got hard real fast and all I kept saying was KEEP MOVING, once you stop it is over and the score will plummit.  So I did just that and kept plugging away.  It was much harder then it used to be when I did burpees ALL THE TIME.....there was a reason.  To remind me how much easier something is when you do it all the time.  Then I did:

Then I got a call that Jada was sick and I needed to pick her up.  So I grabbed her, we ate, playeed and then she went for a nap.  While napping I did:

Happy Birthday to my Beautiful Wife!

Happy Birthday Chelssie.  I know you do not read my blog....you should....but I still wanted to give you a shout out.  I love you more everyday!  Thanks for being born on the same day that the Open starts (you know I had to throw in a CrossFit reference).  I hope that your birthday is everything you hope for and I am glad to get to spend every birthday you have together!

Bench Max and OHS Max...and oh ya...THE OPEN STARTS TOMORROW

Not sure if everyone knows this.  The OPEN starts tomorrow!  Again....The OPEN starts tomorrow!  So excited to start our season and compete against everyone in the world.  This is going to be another awesome year for CrossFit.  Before that happens, some training.....I started the morning off with a quick WOD with Karen:

I was pretty upset about this.  I got 315 easy and figured 325 would feel similar.  Unfortunately I was not able to get comfortable and was shaky.....and then on the way up it fell forward.  Oh well!  Then jumped into a WOD with Tara:

I was up nice and early this morning because Jada did not want to sleep. So from 4-6:30 I was trying not to fall asleep.  I wanted to make sure that Chels stayed in bed because she busted open her shin on a box jump yesterday and got 8 Stitches!  Her first time having stitches and it was a BAD cut.  Once she was up and good to go I headed to the Box and hit:

Last night I decided to give the You Challenge WOD a go after some Olympic lifting.  I started the morning at the box with:

Well.....I failed a lot and multiple times at 245 and 255.  I had it overhead every time but was not able to lock out. I then went into the WOD:

Globo Gym Tabata Sprints

Next Friday....that is the day in my head all the time now.  The 24th of February....2 days after my wife's Birthday, 2 days after the Open starts, and 3 days before my brothers birthday.  The significance......That is the last day as an ATT employee and the day before Full Time employee of CrossFit 061.  It will be a great day....the end a a chapter and the beginning of a new journey that will be full of awesomeness!  I am ready for all the ups and downs. 

Back to earth now.  I went to the Globo gym at lunch:

Like a I said an easy pace.  A lot of the time was spent dodging people.  They walk in packs on the track which is only 2 lanes so I feel like a bicycle rider yelling....to your right!  I then headed back to work.  I plan to hit a nice little met-con tonight and then try to go to the box in the morning tomorrow.

Rowing, WOD 11.2, and 10 Rep DL PR

Today was a good day both in the box and with the Family.  I started out after teaching the AM class and did Main Site from a few days ago with Karen:

I felt like I warmed up on the 1 K row as weird as that sounds.  I was slow on the 2 K with a 7:30 time and then broke the 50 wall balls up a lot.  I took about 45 minutes and then hit:

I went unbroken the whole time but took more time then I should have between movements because I was feeling pretty good when the WOD was over.

WOD Rogue Fitness and Tin Man

Yesterday was a good day, Happy Valentine's Day to my wife.  We enjoyed A LOT of Sea Food and some Dairy queen as a desert together....not Paleo and very good! 

I did a few WODs before that though.  There was a WOD that I saw a few days ago that Graham's box posted and it looked like a good burner.  So I hit some heavy squat cleans and then went into the WOD after the 5:30 AM class:

295 felt like a ton and I was not feeling like it was going to happen so I quit there and got ready for:

I went unbroken the whole way but I took my time from movement to movement.  The push presses got easier as the WOD went on which was refreshing.....today though my Delts are FRIED from them! Next:

I rowed in 3:32 which felt comfortable on the rower.....at least as comfortable as you can feel on a rower.  but the MU's were rough.  I had to break it up into 4 sets.  Not sure how much the first one took out of me but after 3 MU's it go rough.  I then headed out for breakfast and then came back for another WOD:

This felt easier then last time (4:36) but I had a push then.  I broke up the bench in Rds 4 and 5 and only did touch and go in Rd 1 then dropped ever rep.  I need to get this one unbroken soon.  I will keep working towards that.  I then did some weighted pull ups but without adequate rest there was not much left in the shoulders.  I then headed out for meetings and some rest time before Valentine's Day.

Today is a rest day but I had a trainer from the Globo Gym ask if I could pout him through a WOD so that will be today....which is going to be fun....do not underestimate CrossFit bud!

It's My Birthday

I got an early wake up from Jada right after Chels went to the gym for the 5:30 AM class.  SO we were up together....had coffee (not her me) and then a carrot cake with shredded walnuts and raisins on it that my wife made the night before...from scratch and Gluten Free...other then the homemade frosting that she put on.  It was awesome.  At about 8 I took her to school and then headed to the box where I have a little time before work:

Well.....Ring HSPU are much harder then regular HSPU and this did a number on me.  I was breaking them up from the get o trying to get 4-3 the whole time.  Rd 4 and 5 did not go as planned...nonetheless a good WOD.  After this I did the class WOD after messing around in the Hand Stand and doing walks:

I was hoping to PR from the last time I did this a long time ago and got 1:55.  I was mad because the clips came off the bar and I had to fix them 3 times.  It happens but I had thought before we started to double clip them...guess I will next time.  It also turns into a muscle snatch at the end of the WOD. 

After this I headed home to get ready for work.  Not to much fun to work on your birthday...it will be once 061 opens though.  I am so excited.  last day of work is Feb 24th and then full time towards opening the Box!!!

Deadlifts and Wall Climbs

I had a good morning....in fact every morning is good when I get to play with my daughter.  I love hearing her giggle, she has so much fun and it lights me up inside.  After we played for awhile she got dressed for church and I ran down to hit a quick WOD:

Globo Swim

I am planning to rest all day today except for my lunch time fun.  I went to the Globo Gym and decided to swim.  There were a lot of people in the pool so I did a bunch of 25 M swims at a slow pace.  Then.....oh yes.....then I got challenged.  This person was the Michael Phelps of Plymouth, someone I would not want to see in a dark ally.....she was a 15 girl on the Plymouth swim team and she wanted a piece of me.  I said, "lets do it"....then she said, "lets do blah blah blah stroke,"  I had no idea what she said so I said, "no...freestyle"...ok she said.  And we were off...

Her dad said go.....and about 5 M in a 6 year old kid jumped in front of me.............there is a rope that you can swing from into the pool.  Pretty cool unless you are RACING!  I was able to dodge him.  As I was flailing in the water I noticed we were neck and neck.  My breathing was off....even though I have not actually taught myself how to breath well in the water.  Eventually I just stuck my head in the water and just SWAM!  I hit the edge and realized I won by about a Meter.  I tried to act like I wasn't surprised.  Even with a kid flying in my way I still managed to win....then the best part happened...."Did you swim in high school?" she asked.  This was the 2nd time in a week I had swam and before that I do not think I had ever swam 25 M straight except in the games and 1 time last summer.  "No..."   I did not know what else to say.  Then she said "well....we need to go again doing blah blah blah stroke"  I said, "I have to get back to work"  Which I did....but I new I would have been destroyed mainly because I would have done a free stroke again and been disqualified. 

Great thing.....now I have a training partner on the Plymouth swim team....that is if we cross paths again.  She had swam about 500 laps to my 5 before we raced though.  I watched most of them.  Different workout in the pool.....oh ya and we only raced 25 M....anymore and I would have petered out.

Well....as always I go into work on my day off on Thursday....so as always I have less time to train.  Here is what I did with my time:

I was not very happy with the time but I was very nonchalant during the workout on the KBS and OHS.  I was happy with my pull ups.  I did the 100 in 3:30 and was not feeling bad at all when I got to the KBS.  After this I waited until Tara came to the box and then did:

Active Rest

Well.....I have the best wife, tons of leftovers for lunch:


I also have a salad with salami and 5 chicken wings with celery at work to go with this awesome food.  My wife made the chicken for the super bowl and pictured above (I worked on getting it to show right side up with no luck) I have beef stew with red peppers, orange peppers, onions, grass fed beef, carrots, and mushrooms that she had roast in the crock pot for a few hours.  The white stuff is mashed cauliflower, a favorite of mine.  She also makes awesome cauliflower rice.  My staple is included in this, peas, normally I will have some sort of meat mixed with them but today....just peas.  They are frozen and I eat about half a bag at a time.

I have my apple that I eat with peanut butter or almond butter.  Currently I have a big thing of smuckers peanut butter that I will be going to town on later this morning.  And last but not least....probably the thing I am looking forward to the most stuffed peppers.  I have 2 of them here a red and yellow pepper stuffed with grass fed beef and diced veggies.....SO GOOD!  Excited for my lunch and snacks throughout the day.  It is an open to close shift today.

I plan to head out to the Globo gym today for a swim.  I am going to work on technique in the water since the last time I swam was.....well....the ocean at the games.....let just say I need some practice.

Swimming was hard, trying to teach yourself to do something efficiently when you don't know where to start is hard.  I need to do this at least 2 days a week.  WOW.  I was swimming 50 M at a time with short rests and it was rough.  I need to figure out the whole breathing thing.  Tough when your under water.

Open WOD 11.1, Main SIte and a Kid at my Squat Rack!

I got to the Box in the morning and had about 1 hour and a half to get some work in before heading to work.  I started with last years Open WOD.  It is hard to do this one because the 15's slide a lot on the bar because our clips are not very tight so they are constantly being adjusted.  With that being said:

After this I did a WOD with Adrian who was nice enough to jump in to do yesterdays Main Site WOD:

I would love this WOD with a good GHD machine.  You stop mainly from pain in your ankles because there is no padding.  Still good.  Goal was to go unbroken with the barbell and I was able to do that except with some rest between movements.  After this I talked Adrian into a quick one:

I broke up my pull ups on RD 3 and 4 and the same with the cleans.  I was wanting unbroken...which just did not happen.  I then ran out out to the Globo Gym at lunch.  Started with a 500 M warm up on the Rower and then:

9 MPH (Dropped to 8.5 MPH on Rd 6, the 7 and 8 I grabbed the handles)

This crushed me going at 9 MPH.  I felt like I fit right in holding them.  Then things turned sour.  I headed up to "My Spot" as I now call it.....and someone was in it!  A kid, with a belt on, was on the squat rack doing shoulder shrugs...the ONLY squat rack in this giant place.  Here comes the sour part.....I do not initiate conversation, but after 5 minutes of wanting to say something I did.  This kid was picking up 315 to do shrugs and looked like he was going to snap in half.  Then he added more weight and as he was breaking he dropped the weight.  I watched as he was taking the weight off and then it just came out, "Hey, I noticed something when you were picking up the weight.." and went on to explain a more proper way to lift it.  He agreed with me and then went on to say, but I am doing it this way because of what I am trying to work.....wait....weren't you doing shoulder shrugs?  Because that was not helping your shrugs.  I said, "well it is a good way to get injured doing that"  He went on to say people have said that to him and went into an elaborate explanation that made no sense as to why he would not do what I said.....I just nodded and said ok and went back to squatting:

I worked up to 355 x 3 and it felt light.  I was to scared to go heavier because I did not trust anyone there to spot, a nice guy did offer and I accepted but still did not feel comfortable going higher.  I plan to go for a back squat max soon.  That was it and I headed back to work.

Super Bowl Celebrity Flag Football Game

This weekend in Indy was awesome. I got to see and meet a lot of celebrities and pro athletes. We got to do a WOD before the game, them watched the Fray, and got to go to the after party where Kady Perry performed and we "smoozed" with people. Like I said it was awesome. After the game and before the after party we headed out for a WOD. Here is how it went down:

for the Squat Clean I had the Clean up but was to far forward, same on the clean. On the WOD I failed 2 snatches in the first Rd and I was very happy with the 305 clean after the WOD. After this we did:

Lunch Run

I am heading down to Indy today after work in Prep for tomorrow at the Celebrity/Pro Flag Football Games.  We will be doing some stuff during it and I was told it will be on 25 stations!  If that is true....crazy....all I have to say....and lots of autographs will be asked for by me....I have no shame.  I headed out at lunch to get a quick run in:

30 MU's and SUPER BOWL!

I got up today as every normal Thursday and headed to the box for the 5:30 class.  After the class I got a call that Jada was sick and I needed to get home so my wife could go to work and I could take her to the doctor.  Hurry up mode....here's how it went:

I had some issues and plan to crush this next time.  I did 4 unbroken dropped hit 1 and then failed....and kept failing 5 more times.  Eventually I realized the rings were set to low.  I raised them up a few inches and then was back at it when the clock said 3:30.  I did not have another failed rep.  It took a lot out and I had no idea why I could not get one.  I was not able to get a big enough kip to get the transition.  I will remember that.  After this I jumped into a WOD with Tara:

I was in such a hurry that all I remember is that on the deads my hands were raw and that I did 64 Walking lunges.

When I got back from the doctor I brought Jada down in the basement and she played while I deadlifted up to 425, and again my hands were fried.  I kept trying different things to use at straps or grips....I found 1 of my old power lifting straps....only 1...I then grabbed a yoga strap and pulled 405 with it.....and then immediately dropped it.  I went ahead dropped the weight down to 405 and pulled it for 5 and decided to take the little lady upstairs.  I then got ready for work (even though it was my day off) and my grandparents in law came over to watch her while I went in.

As far as the Super Bowl goes I will be there with Reebok promoting CrossFit.  We are ding a WOD before the celebrity football game in the sand......we will see how that goes.  I will be out there all day and it is going to be awesome.  Cannot wait, I am heading to Indy tomorrow and crossing my fingers to meet some celebs and potentially get tickets!  Pretty sure that is a long shot but a Crossfitter can dream!

Rest Day

Me at my first Local Competition ever in Crown Point, IN back in 2010.  The deadlift weight was 225# and felt like 400#....I have come a long way, plus I was much smaller then.
